#BlackViolenceContinuesInSA: 5 municipal cars torched as black workers riots in Soshanguve

Violence erupts in Soshanguve

Five cars were torched when violence erupted at the municipal offices in Block F Soshanguve on Thursday.

Police spokesperson Warrant Officer Matthews Nkoadi said the violence broke out just before 08:00. The five Tshwane metro vehicles were set alight and the windows of another smashed.

Workers of the department of public works’ expanded public works programme (EPWP) went on the rampage after complaining about not being paid.

They blockaded roads, burnt tyres and broke the municipal offices’ window.

Nkoadi said police had dispersed the troublemakers by 9:30, but were keeping watch.

No one had been arrested by mid-morning as a police investigation was continuing.
