Man injured after stopping 2 suspected criminals.
PIETERSBURG – Len Bekker had to receive between 20 and 30 stitches in his shoulder and hand after confronting two suspicious men in Industria on Saturday.
Len and his girlfriend was driving from a friend’s house when they saw two men carrying two large bags and confronted them on what they were doing.
“I got out of the vehicle and asked the one man what they were carrying this late at night and the man screamed at me to mind my own business if I wanted to stay alive.
“I realised that they had to be carrying stolen items and told them I would be calling the police.
“One of the men started running and dropped the bag of stolen items.
“The other turned towards me and started pushing me backwards until he pushed me up against a wall,” Bekker said.
In the process of pushing the man away, Bekker sustained stab wounds to his shoulder and hand with what he suspected was some kind of glass or metal.
Bekker grabbed the man and hit him with his head whereafter the man ran away.
Bekker told Review his girlfriend called the police and they left for the hospital where he received medical attention.
He also suffered several cuts and scrapes on his legs.
Polokwane police spokesperson, Capt Ntobeng Phala, said that even though it is admirable that the man wanted to stop the thieves, he urges residents to contact the community policing forum(CPF) and police when seeing something or someone suspicious.
“People want to do good and this is a very good quality, but people must also remember criminals who steal are in most cases very aggressive when confronted.
“Such cases should rather be reported to the CPF or police as confronting these robbers can lead to serious injuries,” Phala added. The stolen goods were recovered.
