It seems that he was pulled from a taxi and beaten up in a case of mistaken identity. He died in Groote Schuur Hospital in Cape Town on Wednesday morning.
Schoombie was 27 years old and had recently returned from an overseas trip. As a Stellenbosch University graduate he had quite a few interviews lined up to embark on what all believed would be a lucrative career.
On a Facebook page, Prayers for Carl, created after the attack, hundreds of friends and family members are pouring out their love and admiration for Carl, who was clearly much loved and will be sorely missed.
He leaves behind his parents, a sister and a brother.
