Restaurant shooting ‘a warning’

Restaurant manager shot ‘as a warning’ to his boss
A shooting in a restaurant at Kimiad golf course east of Pretoria on Wednesday morning appeared to have been meant as a warning to the owner, course manager Jana Jones said.

She said the victim was Conrad Liebenberg, general manager of the O Sole Mio restaurant.

“From what I heard, Conrad said the man who shot him shouted that it was a warning for his boss at the restaurant.”

The shooting happened around 08:00 on Wednesday morning.

Jones said Liebenberg was hit in the upper body. He stumbled from the restaurant at the bottom of the golf course to the office of the groundskeeper to seek help.

“Our groundskeeper, Kobus van Niekerk, helped Conrad before calling the police and ambulance services,” said Jones.

Liebenberg was rushed to hospital.

His fiancée Lalucia van Niekerk said Liebenberg was in a critical condition.

“He is in and out of consciousness the whole time. I simply cannot understand why anybody would do this. I simply cannot.”

Police spokesperson Warrant Officer Dave Miller said the restaurant was closed at the time of the shooting. The shooter just walked in, pulled a firearm and opened fire.

Miller said the man was hit near his shoulder.

“We have launched a manhunt to find the suspect.”
