Dirk (38) was reeds die afgelope jaar by ACSU werksaam en voor dit het hy sekuriteit by verskeie winkels in Ermelo behartig.
Volgens sy werkgewer, Oubaas de Jager, is almal by ACSU nog in skok oor Dirk se afsterwe.

 Buurtwag Ermelo S4

In the early morning hours of Friday, 13 May, residents of Ermelo were awaken by first an explosion followed by gunshots making the Wild West pale in comparison.

According to Captain Carla Prinsloo, spokesperson of the local SAPS and Oubaas de Jager, owner of ACSU, four suspects in a white Mercedes entered the Oak Center after 1 o'clock this morning. One of the suspects took position at the entrance of the Oak Center with an automatic weapon, presumably a R5, while the others proceeded to the ATMs in front of Checkers.

When the ACSU guard on duty at the Oak Center tried to investigate they threatened him and chased him away. He managed to press a panic button and two reaction units of ACSU hurried to the Oak Center. There was a loud explosion when the suspects bombed the ATM.

When the first ACSU unit arrived the lookout suspect at the entrance of the Oak Center opened fire at them, hitting the driver, Bashini (Emmanuel) Nkosi, as they passed the entrance. As the vehicle slowed down, Dirk Ackermann, the passenger in the ACSU vehicle jumped out to take cover at the Total filling station.
As he ran towards the Steers he was shot from behind and was killed instantly. A SAPS vehicle also passed the scene and was also shot at.

The second ACSU vehicle arrived and also had to take cover. The suspects fled the scene in the direction of Hendrina. By that time the neighbourhood watch had closed all the roads leading from Ermelo, but there was no sign of the suspects.

Bashini was seriously injured and taken Ermelo MediClinic where he was stabilized. This morning he took a turn for the worse and was airlifted to Johannesburg
