No arrests following Modimolle jailbreak

Polokwane - Limpopo police had by Wednesday morning not re-arrested any of the 14 awaiting-trial prisoners who escaped from the holding cells in Modimolle.

The group, facing charges including rape, burglary, and armed robbery, escaped by sawing through the mesh wire of the exercise room of the cells on Tuesday afternoon, said Colonel Ronel Otto.

Otto said it was possible they were armed and dangerous and warned the public not to approach them, but to contact police.

Limpopo police commissioner, General Sehlahle Fannie Masemola, said they would take disciplinary steps against any officers found to have been involved in the escape.
